FNB Connect – Poor Service and Unfair Credit Assessment | Bad Service from FNB

I’ve been a loyal FNB client for years, but my recent experience with both FNB and FNB Connect has been extremely disappointing.

I app**** for a new device—one that costs significantly less than what I’ve previously paid for two devices combined. Despite this, my application was declined due to “failed affordability.” This is completely unreasonable, considering I’ve recently:

Paid off and closed multiple credit accounts Reduced credit limits to zero ro the minimum Settled a personal loan Completed a cellphone contract Improved my financial position significantly All of these payments were far higher than the small monthly amount now required by FNB Connect.

I’ve submitted all requested documents, including payslips and bank statements, and explained that I share expenses due to being married. Yet, I keep getting redirected between departments, with no one taking ownership. I even spent over 15 minutes on a call, only to be left in silence.

The lack of coordination between FNB and FNB Connect, and the absence of clear communication or accountability, is unacceptable. I’ve done everything asked of me. If this isn’t resolved soon, I’ll be closing my account and moving to a bank that values its clients.

Update: Still No Resolution – Giving FNB One Last Chance

Since my initial complaint, I’ve made further progress on my financial profile:

  • I’ve paid up several accounts and am in the process of closing more, including my overdraft.
  • My income is actually increasing, yet I was told it has “gone down,” which is incorrect.
  • I discovered that both my credit card and credit facility were duplicated on my credit bureau profile, showing outdated balances last updated in 2023. This may have negatively impacted the assessment.

Despite these improvements, I still do not qualify for a device that is far more affordable than what I’ve previously paid off under heavier debt.

I’m giving FNB and FNB Connect one final opportunity to resolve this within the next 20 days before I consider closing my accounts and moving on.
