Fnb: Closing an Account

I have two cheque accounts, a Gold Cheque account and the Aspire Account.

I have been trying to close the GOLD CHEQUE account since November Last Year, as I no longer need it. Despite bringing the balance to ZERO each time, then using the SECURE CHAT to close the GOLD CHEQUE ACCOUNT, Nothing ever happens, and each Month I have to pay account fees on something I do not use.

This time I will not bring the negative balance to zero. Can it be that difficult to CLOSE an account and keep another?
