FNB Cheque Overdraft (20% +) vs Credit Card (17%) - Milking me to pay more Interest on Debt.
I needed a little extra money for vacation, and due to 2 months of unemployment, my Credit card limit is quite high ( 50k - 70k) - and fully used. To use eBucks and gain a level, I app**** for an overdraft on my Cheque account. For 5K - the lady kept prompting me for a higher amount, but I knew my ill discipline would get me into more debt. So in the end, I kept it to R 10k - because as she assured me, I can use my banking App and decrease it. So, I only used R 5k, and the R3230 was sent to my Credit card (interest around 17%, while the Cheque acc is over 20% annually). So after a week, I now see how clever FNB is: they paid R 3230 into my Credit card Acc, decreased the limit with R 4000, and my Cheque Overdraft is now standing on R 8000 +.
FNB is very sly here. I tried to increase my Credit Card limit last night, but got a message that it is declined, because FNB has to be responsible and be sure that I can make my payments. BUT - I am now paying interest on R3230 more on a 20% + interest rate (Cheque Acc), and they are blocking me from returning the money from my Credit card (17% interest), and reducing my Cheque Acc Overdraft to R 5000. When I tried to increase my Credit Card limit, their message was that they have to be responsible credit providers and make sure I can repay them, but... THEY ARE FORCING ME to pay 20%+ on that R3230, by STOPPING me from rather paying it on my Credit Card Acc with a 17% interest rate...
