FNB charging R125 for paying your debit order whilst you have insufficient funds.
So it seems FNB made a decision to take advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic. They invoke unilaterally the option to honor your debit orders even when you have insufficient funds in that account so they can make R125 out of you. Amazing customer service and customer care.

21 Apr 2020, 11:15So it seems that if you are a Gold Account Holder, there are two routes that FNB will pick. (1) If your account where the debit order has insufficient funds in it and not other linked account has money, they will declare it “not paid item due to insufficient funds.” No fee payable if it is the first with fees attached for 2 or 3 and higher fees for more than 3 failed debit orders. (2) if the account where the debit order is going off has insufficient funds but an linked account has money, they will declare it “item paid, insufficient funds and charge fee of R125 per debit order fail. I feel that this is legitimately wrong even if the fee as listed is legitimate. This process is legally unacceptable. FNB then ultimately dictates and will assume that you will pay a certain debit order which they do pay when looking at your financial standing as a whole and charge you an extra R125 for making a financial decision on your behalf. This is an awesome way of taking advantage of people in my opinion and a route to make that extra buck which could be millions a year. They will call it a legitimate fee but cannot or will not explain the process to you of why they feel it is in the circumstances, an applicable fee.
