FNB Bank & it's CEO's office not for black bankers
In October 2020, I reported a ***** case with FNB *****, immediately after it happened. The consultant, Beverly Nukeri, told me to go to the Police and get a case number, amongst other things.
I did this and sent everything I had between myself and *******. Beverly told me she contacted ABSA as the ******* banks with them and they said this is a long standing account and their client tried to refund me but was unable to. I went back to her to ask for proof of this refund and got nothing. I sent numerous emails trying to get anything from them and finally, in February I decided to contact the CEO directly, Jacques Celliers.
I immediately received responses and thought OK, I'm finally getting assistance here. Beverly Nukeri then called me and went straight into the matter! She didn't bother acknowledging that she'd ignored my mails for months or apologize for any of it. I requested that she calls me back and we start over. She never did. They just shifted me to someone else who sent me a standard "sorry for the inconvenience caused" letter.
Today, a good 4 months later, and after I send yer another follow up email, they come back to tell me that the ******** who ****med me spent the money and I need to see how else I can get it and that if I'm not happy with their solution, I can contact the Ombudsman.
Not only did FNB not prioritize me as their client, they helped a ******* by giving him enough time to spend my R10 000. Had I been told the day of the incident that they have no intention of assisting me, I would have had the police liase with ABSA via court orders, freeze the account and recover my money.
What's funny to me is that a white colleague of mine had the same exact problem but his was sorted immediately. He was advised that FNB has a relationship with ABSA and that in such situations, and with proof, the account gets frozen while an investigation happens.
Really, the only difference between my case and that of my colleague is that my emails, even to the CEO, just weren't white enough.
If you're black and you bank with FNB, don't even bother with the CEO, the outcome will still be the same.
We are talking about the same email here. The one that says you are done with this and I can go to to the Ombudsman.
Thanks though,
