FNB bad bankers

On the 10th of July 2024, AVG debited my bank account by default with a subscription fee that I did not agree to, in the amount of R1149-00. I received an SMS from FNB and immediately contacted the ***** line to advise them that I did not approve this debit. The lady advised me to send an e-mail and proof that I did not approve this. Well during my research into what the reason for this debit was, I found hundreds of complaints against AVG the anti-virus company, that uses a methodology for sending a past user an e-mail and if the user does not respond, they go ahead and consider this as a renewal confirmation. My issue is not only with this ******* way of getting a recurring income, but also with FNB. I immediately advised my bank that I did not approve this debit, and they went ahead and allowed the funds to be taken from my account, regardless of the fact that there were insufficient funds, and I did not approve this debit! I have to ask the question, is FNB my banker or AVG's banker? Surely the money in my bank account belongs to me, and I should have the final say over what happens to my few cents? I subsequently contacted AVG, accepted an apology and a promise of a refund after escalating the query. FNB penalised me for being overdrawn on an amount that FNB allowed to be paid against my wishes and FNB personnel advised me to block the card that was used, which I did. The funds were returned to my account, but only after FNB penalised me R200 for being overdrawn without my permission. So I let it slide. As the devil would have it, this last week, AVG took the money from my account again! This time no SMS from FNB. My account is once again overdrawn, and I am sure FNB personnel would insist this is my fault. How did they allow this debit this time, as the card was blocked, there were no funds for this debit and no one asked me? What is going on at FNB? Do they get kick-backs from corporates like AVG? So between AVG and FNB, they can profit from old people like me, by allowing accounts to go into an overdraft, then refund the money after passing a hefty charge, then repeat the cycle again. One way of making money and I am sure I am not the only person experiencing this issue. I am now considering closing the bank account whilst it is in debit, but would like to ascertain through the bank firstly, how they allowed AVG to take funds this time? I would appreciate some feedback from FNB about this situation, failing which I will approach the banking ombudsman and see whether they could investigate the practices that are making money for corporates and ribbing the general public. Disgraceful!
