FNB allows transations to go off your Account, without your Authorisation...!!!
On 23 September 2026, I received an FNB notification advising me that R1,008.97 had been reserved for a purchase at Gator Premium using the card ending ***.
I immediately contacted FNB Secure Chat because I did not recognise or expect this transaction.
During that conversation, while the transaction was still showing as PENDING, I specifically told the FNB adviser: "There is a pending transaction on my account that I'm not aware of. That transaction MUST BE STOPPED!"
When FNB directed me to the card-dispute functionality and the transaction was not yet showing there because it was still pending, I again told the adviser: "I tried. It's not showing there yet. I need you to STOP that transaction before it goes through!"
I further told FNB: "It's still saying PENDING. You can still STOP it." The adviser informed me that, according to FNB's procedure, they could not stop the transaction and that I had to complete a dispute form so that an investigation could be conducted.
I did exactly what FNB instructed me to do. I completed and submitted FNB's prescribed dispute form on 23 September 2026, the same day I discovered and reported the transaction.
I subsequently confirmed that the card ending *** was an FNB virtual debit card that I had created specifically for RapidGator, and I blocked that virtual card.
I have previously used RapidGator and made a payment to them in April 2026. However, I did not knowingly authorise or expect another R1,008.97 payment in September 2026. My understanding was that my previous RapidGator payment related to an annual period.
Despite reporting the disputed transaction while it was still pending, blocking the affected virtual card, following FNB's instructions and submitting the required dispute documentation, the R1,008.97 subsequently went through and was debited from my account on 25 September 2026.
My transaction history now shows: Purch Gator Premium – card ending *** – R1,008.97 – 25 September 2026 I understand that an already-authorised card transaction may, depending on the circumstances and applicable card rules, still settle after a card is blocked.
However, my question to FNB is simple: What has happened to the dispute I submitted on 23 September, and where is my R1,008.97?
I reported the transaction immediately. I contacted FNB while it was still pending. I repeatedly told FNB that I disputed it. I blocked the affected virtual card. I completed FNB's dispute form. I supp**** the required information.
What more was I supposed to do?
R1,008.97 is a significant amount of money to me. I budget carefully every month, and this money is required for my normal living expenses.
I now require FNB to urgently provide my dispute/case reference number, confirm the current status of its investigation, explain how this transaction was authorised and processed, and refund/reverse my R1,008.97 if its investigation confirms that the September transaction was not properly authorised.
I should not have to repeatedly chase my own bank after doing exactly what I was instructed to do.
FNB, I reported this transaction on the day I discovered it. Please resolve my existing dispute and return my R1,008.97 if the transaction is found to have been unauthorised.
