When we doing shopping and swipe our bank card at a till the money goes into a soft account and the money is taken out of your bank balance. Let's just say I had R500 in my account and shopped for R200 . I will only be able to draw R300 cos the R200 is taken out from your balance. Why do I keep getting a SMS stating my account is overdrawn once the R200 goes off for payment. What happened to R200 that is held in a soft account. Another thing we get charged a monthly banking charges and I noticed I am been charged for a monthly management. Please check your accounts FNB customers Cos the FNB call center couldn't answer me on these topics.

Good Day Devanp13 ,

Thank you for your posting.

When you use your card to swipe at a merchant you will receive a sms notification advising that the amount is reserved and your balance will automatically reduce. The amount will not show on your account until the merchant banks the voucher. Once the voucher is banked the amount will reflect on your account, showing in your transaction history, this is the reason it can sometimes take a few days to go through your account. We do not have control over when a merchant decides to do their banking.

So from your example of your balance R300.00, If you purchase for various amounts merchants bank between 2-3 days later Sometimes your fees would go off hence the SMS will be sent out to warn you before your account gets overdrawn.

We have escalated this matter to a specialist who will be in touch to explain in detail.
