Financial Emancipation
I have had an FNB account since I was a teenager. For all intents and purposes, I love banking with them. I love the efficiency of their digital banking.
However, I noticed their willingness to provide me with a temporary loan of up R4300, however they are unwilling to allow me the chance to buy a product(a cellphone, which I really need as a matter of urgency worth R179 a month for 24 months).
This to me as an accounting graduate makes absolutely no sense to me. How am I able to afford a loan of up to R4300, to be paid back within 30 days but not R179 per month?
I am not entirely fami**** with the National Credit Act but this does look very irresponsible of a bank to be willing to offer a large sum of money in debt versus a reasonably spread out debt. It just looks like an attempt by a bank I love to lock me into a lot of debt that I definitely would not be able to pay off.
Because I clearly need a phone, at terms of R179 it's definitely affordable, but to take out a R4300 debt to buy it cash elsewhere and fail to pay them back looks like a plot to set me up for failure. And as a loyal customer of the bank, I do not appreciate that at all.
