False Advertising & Misleading Promotion : 500GB Promised, 10GB Delivered

FNB is running a misleading and deceptive promotion advertising 500GB of data every month for 6 months, yet after taking out the initial promotion, I was only given 10GB. This is not a minor error, it is a massive shortfall and a clear case of false advertising.

The promotion is marketed prominently as 500GB data every month for 6 months, with no reasonable indication that customers will receive anything close to just 10GB. Had the true benefit been disclosed upfront, I would not have engaged with this offer.

I have contacted FNB to resolve this issue, but instead of honouring what was advertised, I am met with poor communication and no accountability. This behaviour is unacceptable from a major financial institution.

Advertising 500GB and delivering 10GB is misleading, *********, and erodes customer trust. FNB either needs to honour the promotion as advertised or immediately correct their marketing to stop misleading customers.

I expect FNB to urgently resolve this matter and provide the remaining data as advertised. Until then, I would strongly advise other customers to be cautious of FNB promotions, as the advertised benefits do not reflect reality.

This is a follow-up complaint as my previous review regarding FNB’s misleading 500GB data promotion has been ignored and remains unresolved.

Despite advertising 500GB of data, FNB allocated only 10GB, and to date, no corrective action has been taken. What is most concerning is not only the false advertising itself, but the complete lack of urgency, accountability, or customer care shown since the matter was raised.

I have now escalated this issue publicly because internal channels and prior complaints have yielded no meaningful response. This behaviour reflects a clear disregard for customers and raises serious concerns about how FNB handles misleading promotions once they are challenged.

A financial institution of this size should not be advertising benefits it has no intention of honouring, nor should customers be left chasing basic accountability. The silence and inaction following my initial complaint only reinforce the perception that customer concerns are not taken seriously.

This matter remains unresolved and will be escalated further if necessary. I am again requesting that FNB honour the promotion as advertised.

Until this is addressed, I would strongly caution customers against trusting FNB promotions, as the advertised benefits do not reflect the actual outcome.

This serves as a further and final escalation regarding FNB’s advertised 500GB data every month for 6 months promotion, of which only 10GB was allocated.

I have now lodged multiple complaints and follow-ups without any meaningful response or resolution. The continued silence and failure to address this matter is unacceptable.

The promotion was clearly advertised as 500GB every month for 6 months. Delivering only 10GB constitutes a material discrepancy between what was marketed and what was provided. In terms of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), Section 29 and Section 41, suppliers are prohibited from engaging in misleading, deceptive, or false representations concerning the nature, benefits, or quantities of services offered.

At this stage, FNB’s failure to:

  • Honour the advertised promotion
  • Provide a clear written explanation justifying the discrepancy

raises serious concerns regarding compliance with consumer protection legislation. If this matter is not resolved within a reasonable timeframe, I will proceed with lodging a formal complaint with the National Consumer Commission (NCC) and pursue further regulatory intervention where applicable. This issue could have been resolved simply and professionally. Instead, the lack of response demonstrates a concerning disregard for customer rights and statutory obligations. I am requesting immediate resolution in writing.
