Extremely Disappointed with FNB’s Misleading Black Friday PS5 Deal
I’m very disappointed with the way FNB handled their Black Friday PS5 Connect Deal. I queued, completed all the required steps, met every requirement, and even signed the contract. My order was confirmed as successful, so I trusted that everything was in order. Days later, I received an unexpected in-app notification stating that my order had been cancelled—without any explanation. When I contacted FNB, I was simply told that they would not be honouring the deal and that there were “certain requirements” that allegedly weren’t met. This is extremely frustrating and feels misleading, especially after waking up at midnight to secure the offer and taking the time to complete the entire process correctly. There was no proactive communication, no clarity, and no accountability. My query has now been “escalated,” but based on the responses so far, it seems unlikely that FNB will resolve this fairly. Customers should be able to trust that once a deal is confirmed, it will be fulfilled. This experience has been incredibly disappointing and a waste of time.
FNB is now claiming that my application was declined due to “failed affordability”. I must state clearly that this explanation is neither logical nor credible. The same bank has very recently approved me for far larger and far more significant credit facilities, including:
A home loan, and a credit card
Yet I am somehow deemed unable to afford a R187 per month contract. This is a clear contradiction, and FNB has not provided any evidence to justify such an inconsistent decision.
I have formally requested a copy of the affordability assessment or scoring data that FNB claims to have used. If affordability truly was the reason, then providing this information should not be an issue. Until this is disclosed, the justification given remains highly questionable.
FNB also stated that the promotion’s stock is “sold out”, but has not explained what happened to the unit that should have been allocated once my contract was signed, nor why the cancellation was communicated without any transparency.
At this stage, FNB’s response has raised more concerns than it has resolved. I am still awaiting clear, factual, and accountable answers. Until then, this matter is not resolved.
