Excessive Charges

I know I was in the wrong for not having the required funds in my bank account when a debit order went off and I accept that responsibility. I am not trying to place blame on FNB for that. What I am questioning however is how it can be acceptable both ethically and morally for FNB to charge me R145 for a debit order that has been declined.

What exactly am I being charged R145 for???

Don't reply with the usual BS about that is the banks fee structure, I know this too, that is not my question.

My question is what am I paying that R145 for?

The entire process is electronic, from the debit order request that comes in to the decline because of insufficient funds. So I will ask again, what constitutes the R145.

The only way I can logically answer this is to see the R145 as a cash *** from FNB's perspective in which case I am lobbying for the excessive charges to be dropped. Unless a solid response can be provided as to exactly what we are paying the R145 for.

Please don't tell me a representative will be in contact etc etc. Provide your answer here to the benefit of everyone reading the post.
