Eroding eBucks Benefits

Over time, there has been a slow but steady decline in eBucks benefits. While some of us have managed to largely retain our earn rates by bowing to FNBs changing criteria, it's clear that these benefits are steadily being eroded.

While I am still happy with the eBucks rewards program, FNB should be cognizant that we are aware of the steadily decreasing benefits and the increasingly attractive rewards programs that competitor banks are hosting.

This is not a complaint, merely an exhortation to FNB to stop eroding the eBucks benefits.

The following benefits are top of mind with regards to erosion:

On Gold RL5...
2014 rules ... 15% eBucks on prepaid electricity
2016 rules ... 0%
benefit discontinued

2014 rules ... 15% eBucks on all prepaid airtime purchase
2016 rules ... 0%
benefit discontinued

2014 rules ... Uncapped ADSL 100% discount
2016 rules ... 0% discount
benefit discontinued

2015 rules ... 4% eBucks for online purchases
2016 rules ... 1.5% (no online catogory anymore, treated as credit card spend)
benefit eroded

2014 rules ... no voucher discount limit
mid-2015 rule change ... maximum discount R2400. This, combined with the makro vouchers going on rotation means that if I scored even eB10,000/month and saved them up for a makro purchase once the makro discount re-appears, i might hit the R2400 discount cap, depending on how often makro goes on rotation
benefit eroded (potentially)

The decision to move Makro vouchers to the rotating pool is also one that decreases the attractiveness of eBucks significantly.
