eBucks is becoming ridiculous

So I have a check account and credit card with FNB and I am registered for the rewards program, eBucks.

In June, they changed the reward rules affecting my accounts. Over and above only getting eBucks when I swipe at Engen filling stations for fuel, I am supposed to receive double my fuel eBucks if I fill up exclusively at engen filling stations for three months.

As of the beginning of July, I have filled up only at engen filling stations. Sometimes even at an inconvenience to myself. But I have been steadfast.

Each month I get a summary of my spend on my credit card and the spend that I am to receive eBucks based on. The July summary was fine as it reflected that all my spend was at engen filling stations and that was consistent with my purchases.

In September I received the summary for August and it reflected an amount of R54 that I had supposedly spent purchasing fuel at a filling station other than an engen filling station. I investigated my statement and found and amount of R54 where I had bought candles from a total filling station. I called eBucks and they confirmed that it was this purchase that was putting a blemish on my record. The consultant also pointed to me that mine was not the only such case as others had been calling in with a similar query and problem.

The spend that is supposed to count towards the eBucks is supposed to be fuel spend at a forecourt. Not inside the store. This is further evidenced by the fact that I use car washes at sasol filling stations and make payments in the store and such payments never negatively affect my fuel spend.

But with this amount of R54 at a Total filing station does not follow the same rules for some reason.

After I called in to point out this mistake the consultant said she would escalate my query and to she called to give me feedback that I have to find a forward them the slip from the transaction in order to prove that it was an in store purchase.

Right now, I do not have the slip from over two months ago and the store in question is some six hundred kilometres from where I currently am.

Regardless of the above, with all the inconvenience I go through to ensure that I only buy fuel at an engen filling station, I feel it is rude to expect me to have a slip for things I bought out of an emergency. Must I drive two towns over to get to an engen filling in order to buy candles at night when the electricity has failed us? In as much as, I get eBucks from the transaction, the extra inconvenience is an unreasonable thing to expect of any person.
