Dud Chip in FNB Credit Card

Since the beginning of the year, the chip of my FBN credit card has been giving me problems when I pay for transactions. It happens about once a month. I however got worried last night when it gave me problems again, since I am leaving for overseas soon. So, I contacted FNB which informed me I have to pay to get the card replaced.

To be honest, my card is always in my wallet to protect it from wear and tear. Therefore, I doubt it is my fault that the chip is faulty.

It is to FNB's benefit to replace my card, because if not, I will use alternative methods to pay for transactions which means they will be losing money.
