DON'T take a HOME LOAN from FNB! Pathetic service!
I am in the final stages of buying a house. I have selected FNB as the bond provider. This decision was more out of convenience, or rather to reduce a potential administrative burden, than a financially-motivated one. I am currently main-banked by FNB, and have a fairly diverse product suite for several years with the company. The decision to take a home loan with another bank whilst keeping my banking portfolio with FNB seemed sub-optimal and I wanted the transfer of the house to go through as quickly as possible.
I signed the bond attorneys documents several weeks ago. I was given a (non-binding) commitment that the transfer should happen by mid-May but conservatively by the end of May. I was given this expectation sometime in April. Consequently, I cancelled my lease effective end-May, i.e. I don't have accommodation from 1 June.
As of the 16th of May, I was informed that FNB have not given proceed to the bond attorneys. This is the last requirement before lodging can happen. The feedback I was given was that a Debi check mandate was sent out and needed to be approved. I received it on the 17th (a Saturday) and approved it by 07:40. On the 19th (a Monday), the bond attorney informed me that FNB still require the mandate to be approved. I've got proof on the FNB App that I approved it (screenshots and in-app messages). This matter has been escalated twice, to date. Still, no response or resolution.
Not only is this a deeply frustrating, confusing and disappointing situation, it is also destructive. I cant help but think that buying a property should be a joyous and momentous occasion yet this instance is being marred.
For a bank that prides itself on "digital innovation", it sure seems lackluster and altogether useless.
Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I didn't select FNB for my home loan. And if this level of service delivery continues (which is to say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING), then I will have no choice but to move my banking portfolio to a bank who can actually deliver.
This bank is greedy. Over-promises and under-delivers. FNB Home Loans were so quick and keen to win my business for the Home Loan, but now they're reluctant to do any work whatsoever ... Pathetic!
I implore everyone who sees this - if you are thinking of taking a home loan with FNB, DO NOT!
