Don't switch to FNB! Save yourself.

I opened an FNB Premier account on 7 Dec 2016. Cheque Card was delivered within a week. I phoned to activate it and they said somebody would phone back shortly, nobody did. Phoned again and they figured out I wasn't fica'd. (At no point did anybody request my docs.) I got fica'd by COB that day and I requested that the Cheque Card be activated.

On Dec 14th, I sent all my credit card docs to the outstanding docs email address, by the 20th the cheque card still wasn’t activated and I still couldn't register for online banking due to "card not valid" (because it hadn’t been activated). I spent all day going from one department to the next. Eventually, I got the card active and tried registering again, but couldn't. Phone again and they came to the conclusion that my OTP wasn't setup and I was transferred to another department. (At this point I would just like to point out that I had been using *my cellphone number* as part of the verification process on every single phone call to FNB.)

At the end of the call the agent asked if there was anything else that he could help with and I asked for a status on my credit card, he said the docs I had sent a week prior was never received. (Surely, somewhere during the week that had past somebody could have just called me to finalise the credit card app?)

I sent the docs through again (cc'ing the premier team as with all the mails prior). A couple of days later I got a "Welcome to FNB phone call" and I explained to the agent that I was actually really upset and disappointed about my move to FNB as up to this point, I had to every single thing myself. I had to phone them to get fica'd. I had to phone, and phone, and phone just to get the card activated. I had to phone for online registration and I had to phone them to setup a OTP. I don't see the point of paying banking fees if you have to make everything happen yourself.

At the end of the call the agent again asked if there's anything else I needed assistance, just like all the calls before I asked for a status on my credit card as I hadn't heard anything from FNB and it had been close to 3 weeks. He looked into my profile and told me that all the documents were received and approved and that I would be contacted for delivery.

29 Dec, I go to Woolworths and the cheque card doesn't work. I phone (again) and after looking into my cheque card (which is now sorted) the agent asks if there's anything, I ask for credit card status. Not finalised. They don't have a proof of income.

Nobody contacts me again, so I log a complaint on the afternoon of 30 Dec. I get a callback on 3 Jan saying that the payslips wasn’t enough, I needed to send bank statements through too. (Surely, somebody could have asked for bank statements at the beginning of Dec?)

I send through my bank statements within 10 minutes. This morning (Exactly one month after I contacted them to get the process started) I get a random email from FNB asking for all the documents that I had sent through twice already, looks like some kind of automated response.

This has, quite honestly, been the most pathetic customer experience of my life. A month later and I still haven’t made it to the other side yet!
