Don't switch to FNB Connect

I am with FNB, so decided to switch from my existing provider for ebucks.

I now regret this immensely. I am even considering switching my bank accounts from FNB because they're associated with this poortly run, customer unfriendly spinoff.

At the outset, people I asked for infrmation were not knowledgeable about the products, or even about who I should ask for information. No-one responded to my request for the call back service. Bizarrely I received a call suggesting I had inquired about credit.

Only at the end of the extensive online setup was I informed that I would be charged R50 for delivery, and that the SIM might take as long as 5 days to arrive.

Having filled out my delivery details on the site, I was told I had to go and fill them out again on the third party delivery (Digital Planet) website.

Digital Planet sent me a text saying they were coming at some point during the day (please be a little more specific). As it happened they didn't even come that day. I received a message saying that they hadn't delivered and I had to call them if I didn't want the order to be cancelled. The number didn't work.

The deliveryman who turned up the next day said it had just been too late to deliver the previous day. If so, why did they say it was coming? Why did they expect me to call them to avoid cancellation?

Then, with no prior notice, they said I couldn't receive the package unless I gave them a copy of my ID! I've never heard of such a procedure. Why would I have a copy of my ID lying around. I had paid R50 for a sim card to be delivered from down the road, and they expected me to have intuited that I'd need to go and photocopy my ID for them! On the phone, the rude delivery dispatcher, even suggested that I should go and make a copy right then.

Finally I convinced them that a photo of my ID should be enough and after a long delay, I had the card.

Alas, I tried to activate it online, as well as using the activation number and it would not work. Sorry. Phone this number.

I phoned the number and they told me I would have to go into an ATM to activate it. The reason I eventually assented to having it delivered for R50 was because I didn't want to go into the bank!

My complaint was escalated by the only helpful person in this entire process, and I was informed it would take 48 hours to activate the card. 48 hours.

In the 15 minutes since that call I have now received about five sms's saying it has been fully activated and that the porting of my old number has commenced. Isn't one sms enough?

What a debacle.

FNB needs to sort out Connect, as well as its third party delivery service. As it is, this brand has been tarnished by its association with inferior services.
