DO NOT TAKE OUT A STUDENT LOAN WITH FNB

I have a student loan for my son with FNB. End of year 2015 I wanted to put a lump sum into the student loan. I was told by more than 1 supervisor in the call center that this would not change my interest rate nor would it affect my interest repayments monthly and that the Capital would only decrease at the end of the loan term. In effect they will take my money but I get no benefit. That was the first crazy experiance with them. The second came in August of 2016 they deducted more than double my debit order amount off my account. When I called in I waited for more than 40 minutes to get through and eventually put down and tried again. After severa failed attempts I gave up and returned their debit order in the hope they would phone me. Well they didn't and the by the end of the month I called again with slightly more luck. I was told by the consultant that I was being charged interest and capital. When I queried this they said they never received proof of registration for the study year. I then resent the proof and followed up to ensure the debit order woud return to normal and they would credit the capital portion they had added to my account. After several calls, many emotions and even supervisors who know very little, I was told that I had to pay the capital portion for the 1 month, even though they had proof my son was still studying. The next month without fail they again deducted capital and interest. Another several emotional telephne calls later I eventually got a resolve that they would credit the capital portion added but I was to pay the interest portions that I had returned with the debit order. It is now April 2017 and they have taken double interest portions off my account but their statement still shows an arrears of R4200. Yesterday calling them was a joke and they are no more informed or knowledgable than they were 1 year ago. When I visited the branch in Canal Walk the lovely lady who helped me couldn't believe the garbage on the statement as it makes no sense. The call center is useless and the staff there are ********.This has now affected my credit rating.

BIG BIG WARNING TO ALL OUT THERE: DO NOT TAKE OUT A STUDENT LOAN WITH FNB. There are better options.
