Do not put your home loan through FNB
If you are looking to buy a home, I cannot stress enough how much I'd recommend using another bank, any other bank, that actually wants to keep you as a customer and wants to HELP you with your banking. Even if another bank wants to charge you more, in the long run it will be worth it.
I'm in FNB's Private Wealth, and cannot overstate how awful my experience has been. When I took a homeloan, they offered a R400k future use amount. From when I got the home loan to when I asked for the future use amount, my income has doubled, yet they declined me. The staff were unfriendly, unhelpful, slow to respond and gave vague answers. Over a year later my banker suggested a different loan structure, which I agreed to. I gave her all the documents she asked for by the end of November 2025. The initial projection was 2 weeks. As of March 10th, it is still incomplete.
There were constant back and forth. After 2 months they said one document hadn't been signed correctly. Eventually it was approved, which actually ended up costing me money as the bond needed to be re registered.
Then, FNB's lawyers told the attorneys to hold off on the registration as they had miscalculated some amount. This was handled by my banker at FNB, but the process is still on hold.
It's a 4 month, expensive process.
Essentially they've just wasted my time.
