Denied access to Slow Lounge - Elitism
On the afternoon of Friday 17/04/15 I was returning from a business meeting in Johannesburg and attempted to enter the Slow Lounge at O.R. Thambo Airport, as I've often done before, using my Platinum Credit Card (in good standing and meeting all the minimum requirements).

I was informed by the receptionist that they would only be able to take Platinum Clients in an hour to an hour and a half as they were too busy. However, if I was also an FNB Private Client or RMB client I would be allowed access.

Effectively what they were telling me is that it was too busy for me but not for someone with a more elite account. Frankly this smacks of elitism and shows a complete disregard for their platinum clients.

I can understand that during a peak period they had reached capacity. What I cannot forgive is that they chose to ignore the principle of first-come-first-served in order to keep space for their, obviously more treasured clients.

I struggle to see the point in maintaining my platinum account, with the associated extra fees, when clearly it is just a marketing scheme to charge more bank fees for a different colour card. I shall likely be moving back down to the cheaper gold account
