Delayed transactions causes insufficient funds

We have cheque accounts not credit accounts. Why are purchases delayed and causing insufficient funds? Why is FNB the only bank working like this. This causes us to pay R100 fines because FNB doesn’t debit the transaction as it happens.

This was now done last week on my wife’s account. I have a screenshot of the bank statement showing the amount of money in the account then after debit order there were still money left. As per statement. Laid a complaint and FNB phoned her and told her its purchases that didn’t go off by that time. Still the amount that we were penalized for and charged R100 did go of as per the account statement.
