Deficient service from FNB vehicle insurance

I lodged the vehicle accident claim with FNB short term insurance on 3 March 2025 as informed by the motor vehicle accident I suffered on 2 March 2025.

Subsequent thereof, I was requested to furnish bank statements and tracker report amongst other documentation requested. Upon perusal of the bank statement, it was established that I bought alcohol at tops few hours prior to the accident which was around 4pm(accident), of which the said alcohol was not meant for my consumption, same can be reasonably corroborated.

To my surprise, FNB took an issue with that. As I thought that was enough, same FNB took an issue with the fact that the tracker devise installed on my vehicle does not gather the speed at which the car was travelling prior to the accident, notwithstanding that tracking device had never been the requirement in giving effect to the cover under discussion.

Today, which is exactly 32 days after the accident, FNB highlights that it has just appointed the services of an independent expert, CIG (speed expert), to assess the vehicle with the view to establish the speed at which the car was travelling prior to the accident. I am told that the said exercise may take anything between 30 to 60 days to finalise. Worth mentioning, at the time of the accident the vehicle was not travelling anywhere near 60km/per hour. The vehicle in question is fully paid and it has been considered by their assessor to be uneconomical to repair.

In a nutshell, that is the service that I am experiencing from the insurer that I had been duly servicing for years without any claim , let alone that I already escalated the matter to the CEO and COO, however same was met with silence.

At your own peril, consider doing business with FNB vehicle insurer.
