De*****ed by my BANK - fnb

There was a time in my life where i would vouch for FNB as a bank and as a business but that has recently changed after being ****mned by the bank, an institution i am supposed to trust as its supposed to safekeep my cents.

I had a cellphone contract with FNB Connect which was paid up in December 2024 and to my surprise, I was debited R 99 in January and this was now for the sim card. I lodged a complaint and a consultant called me a day after to address my complaint. He did his checks and assured me that his system is now up to date, reflecting that the FNB sim is not used as I had advised him of that and would cancel this. In February, I received a debit order of R105 from FNB connect. When this was queried, a consultant asked that I give him a date in January where I was called by a consultant. He further advised that they would not be able to assist me if I don't give them this date.

": Please note our calls are recorded for security purposes" famous first line by consultants. When does this come in ... as a client I am being told to investigate this if I want them to look into it. I asked if they can check the call log for the first weeks of January and use my number, which he called me on, and track this recording. Unfortunately that cannot happen.

So the bank is clearly making a gain from these small amounts they debit from individuals, and the victims have to prove what steps, including dates, they spoke to a representative from the bank. I'd urge FNB clients to review their bank statements monthly, especially if they have a paid up product by the bank, as this may happen to them too. Moving banks looks like a great idea right now.
