Dangerous Credit Card Functionality

I recently received a new credit card, which has the new tap function enabled. What this means is that transactions up to a maximum of R200 can be authorised on the card without me entering the pin, or giving any form of consent whatsoever.

Although some consumers enjoy this functionality, I find this very dangerous and unsettling. I phoned the contact centre to request that the R200 limit be reduced to R0.00 or alternatively that they issue a new card that does not have this functionality.

None of these options were available, or will be made available at any future time according to the call centre agent. I was also not made aware that this would be the case, or that the new card would have this functionality at all, when I replaced my old damaged card.

As a client I feel let down by the lack of transparency and FNB allowing such a loss of control of my own finances.
