Credit facility reduced with no notice

Firstly to start off I was an ABSA banker for 24 years. I was finally convinced by FNB to convert, they said they would handle the entire transaction between banks. So over a few years, I became a private client at FNB, thinking that one is actually treated with a level of priority – well I was soooooo wrong. Listen to this!!!

Ok, so one afternoon towards the end of the month I get a R4300 deduction off my cheque account, I was obviously a bit shocked, so I called my so called bank manager (let’s call her Houdini), who is never available, finally after 2 days I get hold of her, she explained to me that my credit card was due and that is why it deducted the money, now for the last 10 years with FNB I have been a good boy and paid before they debit, normally the full amount or short of R35000 so I was just surprised, strange thing was that after 4 days that money didn’t reflect in the credit card account and the balance being zero, now my salary was paid in to my cheque account and stupid me, I deposited R31000 into the credit card which would in fact bring a total payment of R35400 , more than the limit they gave me, thinking that this would show in the account. When the next screen came the balance showed zero, I suddenly went into a cold sweat wondering where my whole salary disappeared to. So I speedily contacted my private banker who somehow likes to do a disappearing trick when I call. So a day later after several attempts to call her she finally answers. She tells me she doesn’t know what happened but will escalate the matter to card division. The following day no response, so off I go and sit on the phone, on hold listing to the most annoying music along with a voice telling me they have higher than usual call volume, which evidently is every damn time I call, fortunately I have a speaker phone, so after I have gone to make a sandwich and a cup coffee I go back to my desk and notice I’m still on hold, I finally get hold of the receptionist, who then tells me that my private banker is not available, now I’m starting to think whether this women actually works at FNB, at this point I was literally pulling my hair out.

Ok so long story short Friday my bank manager actually calls me, I literally fell off my chair, my banker Houdini who has decided that she is going to do some work, informs me that the R4300 will clear in my account and my full balance of R35400 will be reinstated in 24 hours. To my surprise the following day everything was back to normal, so I took my whole family to dinner to celebrate.

Monday morning comes my balance is good and decide to pay my kids school fees and other must expenses. As I hit pay my screen goes fuzzy and logs me out of FNB, so I log back in and BOOM!!! My entire salary gone!! Now its 6:00am , I have to now wait for Houdie to get to work, so after she has her coffee, smoke and empties her previous night’s dinner , I finally get hold of her at 11:28am.

“Eish!! Don’t know what da problem is”, she comments. After a few seconds of silence she tells me she must escalate this to card division, here we go again!!!

A whole week goes by after countless emails and telephone calls, so I just decided to enjoy my weekend with no money and deal with it when Houdini and her team leader decide to find themselves back at work. Well it’s now Tuesday 2:20pm and just received an email after calling whomever I can at FNB.

Email goes like this, “Hi Shaun

I am currently in a meeting, as mentioned, we have referred your complaint to card and still await feedback. The moment we obtain this we will advise you.

Regards”

More than two weeks later, now my kids are getting hungry as we have no facilities to buy food, I pleaded and begged FNB to please resolve the problem and tell me what I can do to fix the problem.

After my wife beating and swearing at me as we cannot pay any of our bills and telling me how stupid I was to put my whole salary into my credit card, I get back onto the phone and call and call till I finally find a person that says that FNB reduced facility on my account due to bad conduct, so I ask what they meant, well apparently because I didn’t put money in my account and they had to debit my cheque account they decided to ***** my salary and reduce my credit card down to R1800 which was not available any way. So I asked “don’t they call a person and let them know or at least inform them to put money in” well apparently they don’t, they said they sms me. Now that is just rich as I never actually read any of the messages they are always sending as it is always marketing ****.

So my debit orders now go off my cheque account which pushes my account R10000 over my overdraft facility, suddenly I get 10 calls in one day asking me when I will be paying that money. So I said well when you give me the R35000 you stole from me. They say that won’t happen, so what do I do now? FNB won’t get back to me but I get countless calls to settle my account, do they actually think that I will put money in any of my accounts. None of my bills have been paid, my landlord wants to evict me, my children don’t have food, my insurance have bounced, FNB have destroyed my life and they don’t have the courtesy to tell me exactly why they did it and how I can prevent it from happening again or be willing to help me resolve it. FNB you have disappointed me, I have practically brought my entire family over, along with a dozen mates and colleagues and this is my reward. Shame on you FNB!!

Ok, so this is hugely funny, someone from FNB calls me to ask why i put the above post on helopeter, so i asked, did you read it? So she replies yes. So i said say sort the problem out, she says ok she will escalate, the same thing i have been told the last two weeks. Now its the next day and still nothing, FNB you are simply useless. I will be calling my non existing bank manager to close all my accounts with FNB at 12:00 noon today.
