Concerns about fairness and equality in the bank’s customer service practices.

I recently encountered an issue with FNB Bank that I believe potential customers should consider before opening an account.

Two weeks ago, I transferred R19,800 from my Discovery account to my FNB account to facilitate payments to customers. However, the following day, I was notified by both Discovery and FNB that my account had been placed on hold. FNB informed me that the hold was initiated by Discovery. It took four days for a Discovery investigation officer to confirm that there had been no external complaints; the decision to place the hold was purely internal.

This incident unfortunately affected three other accounts to which payments were made: two held by South African citizens and one by a Nigerian citizen. The investigation officer THABO LEBEPE closed the account belonging to the Nigerians, who is a temporary resident and has consistently comp**** with FNB policies, was closed indefinitely. In contrast, the accounts of the South African citizens were quickly resolved. This disparity in treatment suggests a possible bias in handling customer accounts, which raises concerns about fairness and equality in the bank’s customer service practices.

The handling of these accounts, particularly the lack of prior warning or opportunity for rectification, has been disruptive and distressing. This experience compels me to advise potential customers of FNB Bank to carefully consider how such issues might impact their financial dealings.
