Complaint Regarding Unfair Treatment by FNB Legal Team on My Credit Card Debt

Dear Hello Peter Team,

I am writing to lodge a complaint against First National Bank (FNB) and their legal representatives, Barratt and Associates, regarding the handling of my outstanding credit card debt.

When my late husband passed away in 2018, I lost everything and have been struggling financially ever since. Earlier this year, in January 2026, I was informed that I have to go on pension, as I had been working for the past two years in China. Unfortunately, this change has left me without any income.

Currently, I am living with my daughter in Russia and am unable to make payments on my credit card debt at this time. I have informed FNB of my situation and requested to resume payments starting 10 April, when I hope to be in a better financial position.

Despite this, I recently received a letter from Barratt and Associates, signed by Moleboheng Sekoala—Manager—that demands token payments of R750 on 10 February and 10 March, and threatens legal action if no payment is made. This letter was cold and lacked any compassion or understanding of my difficult situation. I am simply not able to meet these payments and this hard stance is causing me additional distress.

I kindly appeal to Hello Peter to assist me in having FNB and their legal team reconsider my case with empathy, and honor my request to pause payments until April without progressing to legal action. Customers facing genuine hardship deserve to be treated with fairness and dignity.

Thank you very much for your attention and assistance.

Kind regards,
