Closing Credit Card Issues
I went to the FNB on Saturday, the 15th May, to close my credit card account- I did all the paperwork and it was paid in full. I followed up a week or 2 later. I went into the bank again and they said it went to the correct department that day only. They said the account should be closed within 7-14 business days.
Tuesday, 8 June, I called the FNB contact centre to find out if the account was closed, as it was still active on the banking app, the consultant said there's an outstanding amount of R9,10 and that I have to do the application all over again. I paid that "outstanding" amount and planned to going in this Friday to the bank. Then I received an sms saying that I have an outstanding balance of R77,58 on the account.
This disgusting! Why is it so easy to apply for a credit card or to open an account but it's so damn difficult to close it? FNB praises itself about how virtual they are and that you can apply for everything on the app and the online banking, but when it comes to closing accounts you have to go in. So far, I've closed all my accounts and took out a loan from my new bank to settled all my debt with them!
Everything is so high and so many hidden costs!
Please just close my damn credit card account!
