Closing credit card is a NIGHTMARE!!!!
In early Feb I decided to close my FNB credit card and current account as I have accounts with two of their competitors that i use more often and it did not make sense to pay monthly fees when I was not utilizing the accounts. I called in for the credit card and asked for the settlement amount and made the transfer. I was told that the account was closed. I then asked for a closure confirmation letter and they said this would be sent. It was not. A month later on 08 March I call and ask for the letter. After been sent from pil**** to post I eventually receive it and it confirms that the account was closed. Now today, 27 March in the morning I get a sms saying that I have not paid my FNB CREDIT Card. But this account is meant to be closed? I call in and am told that there were pending transactions from Uber in Feb and the account was not closed. What I am not understanding is that the confirmation letter was only sent on 08 March. Why was it not picked up that the account was actually active? Now when on the line I am told that I need to make a deposit of exactly R513.74 in order to get it closed. Take into consideration that I no longer have a current account so this now has to be a atm or teller deposit. If I do a interbank transfer it wont reflect and there could be interest in the upcoming days. and the account will not be closed. So off I go at 8 months pregnant, with swollen feet to the Northgate Branch to go get some help. This is the only place where I feel the staff cared. We made a ATM deposit of R540 and sent a mail asking for closure and were told it take 7 - 10 working days. I feel that I am owed a resolution now as I have been doing this since Feb.
I am really disappointed in this whole process and it reaffirms my decision to close my accounts. This experience definitely does not demonstrates the service promise that FNB speaks of.
