Charges for 'Pending Transactions'

My husband and I realized in October 2017 that our accounts are always in a debit balance due to 'Item unpaid' charges. We have been to the branch (Eastgate) to enquire a million times why we are being charged 'Item unpaid' amounts for transactions that have been 'pending' for days.

What they(the branch) has advised is that when you swipe/tap your card at a store, the amount sits as a pending transaction on your account until the store does their banking. So if the store does their banking when your funds are low, your account goes into a negative balances .... you'e basically charged R100 by the bank for'paying' the amount for you yet the amount was deducted from your account when the transaction was done.

We have been back and forth to the branch with no assistance, this is **************** and utter nonsense.
