Cannot register for PayPal with a non-FNB bank account after closing FNB bank account

I used to have a FNB bank account and used online banking. I then decided to close my FNB bank account because I have moved to CAPITEC.

I now want to use PayPal with my non-FNB (CAPITEC) bank account, but unfortunately in South Africa at the moment the only way to make use of PayPal for receiving money as a non-FNB customer, is to register on FNB's website and then link to your non-FNB bank account.

After I closed my FNB account, I tried to register on FNB's website as a non-FNB PayPay user, but kept getting an error message saying I have an existing profile. I called the call center and was advised to visit an FNB branch as the "system" still shows my internet banking aprofile to be active. I then went to the FNB branch in Somerstet mall (Somerset West) to try and resolve the issue. I was then very surprized that not only one, but three different internet banking profiles still showed as "active" in my name, one of which was a business account for a business that has already been de-registered years ago. My internet banking profiles were all still showing "active" on FNB's system despite me signing a document upon closure of each account that I teh account has been closed. The small problem that I had with my PayPal highlighted what might be a far greater techniocal/privacy issue at FNB. If a customer decides to close his/her account, then the internet banking profile associated with that account is not neccesarily deleted automatically. This is shocking absolutely shocking! If there can be a technical issue like this on FNB's system, what other technical issues might exist that most people might be unaware about?

I have visited the FNB branch in Somerset Mall on numerous occasions trying to resolve the issue, each time waiting 20-30 minutes in a que. The last time I was at the branch I was told that all of the internet banking profiles that were in my name have now been closed, but during my visit the consultant told me that the only thing still outstanding is the closure of my eBucks account, which would take a few days to complete. Why were all of these not closed at the same time I closed my accounts?

It has been about 2 weeks since my last visit to the FNB branch, but this morning when I went to the FNB website and tried to register as a non-FNB PayPal customer I was again confronted with the very same error message saying there is an existing profile in my name. All of this despite all of the time and inconvenience of having to explain everything again and again over and over every time I go to a FNB branch or call the call center. This has left me with a feeling of "no confidence" in FNB's capability to resolve the issue. Every time I went to the FNB branch or called the call center the staff did try their best to help solve the issue and in each case understood the problem, but I do think that this is a technical issue that is lurking in FNB's computer system and that nobody at FNB that I have spoken to so far really knows hot to copmpletely resolve the issue. I makes be relieved that I have switched to CAPITEC where I have had absolutely no problmes so far.

FNB offers PayPal to non-FNB account holders, but is seems that if you are an FNB customer and then decide to close your account for whatever reason, you are then EXCLUDED from using PayPal bacause of apperant technical issues on FNB's computer system which nobody seems to be able to resolve.

I am no longer a FNB customer and just want the issue to be resolved so I can use PayPal that is all. I have waisted so much time going to the FNB branch and calling the call center. This is an issue that I truely believe could have been resolved by now, but I do not thing anyone really knows how to fix the problem.

Just a final note to FNB.

It would be extremely helpful and significantly reduce frustration suffered by your customers if you had a system in place to log problems/issues so that customers do not need to explain their issue over and over again to different people. This is a very inneficient manner of doing things and is highly frustrating to your customers and leaves one walking away with a negative impression of the bank.

The views expressed above are solely based on my own personal experience with FNB and my opinion.
