Cannot open a new account if you are unemployed

I went to my favourite FNB branch today to open an account for my wife, after sitting in the queue for 45 minutes the service consultant tells me that I can only open an account at that branch if my wife receives a salary and if I need to open a smart or flexisave account, I need to go to the Pine street branch where it can be done, well, I went there, and the Team leader (an Indian lady) informed me that an account cannot be opened, Period!! If I need to, I should go to another Bank, Remember, FNB is the number 1 Bank in South Africa, if the number 1 bank has that kind of attitude, very soon it won't be number 1. I prefer doing my banking online, but, moment I decide to deal with people then I get disappointed, and this is not the first encounter that I experienced. HOW CAN WE HELP YOU? Bottom line, can I open an account at Fnb for my wife and pay her a salary of R200 or not, or do I need to stick with Standard Bank, the number 2 Bank, If I can open an account, which FNB branch in South Africa can I go to.
