Business Loan
I am disappointed by the approach taken by FNB towards our failure as a business to honour the debit order for the Business Revolving Loan account. Since last year October 2025, we have been struggling to make funds available for the agreed amount but when we miss the debit date and the account goes into arrears, we eventually settle the outstanding.
This year (2026) has been tough, and projects are scarce. Economy is bad and construction industry has taken a toll. These are some of the reason why we struggle to honour the debit order.
We have recently spoken to some FNB agents (Business Manager) to find solutions about this, so that we can possible pay less mean while or have an payment arrangement during these turbulent times until we have enough income to service the loan account. This will at least keep us in business while we try and navigate these bad economic times.
Surprisingly, FNB does not want to enter into such agreements and have made quite clear that, if we miss our debit order, they will issue collection letter and money will be collected from any of our accounts to settle the outstanding balance. They are not interested if the funds were for small projects where we are trying to get enough profits to settle our debts including theirs.
What we have been told is that, we must make funds available whether we in business or not.
Now, it is quite sad for a small contractor to operate like this and i quite sure that FNB has no mandate to kill or suffocate and small business in SA just because they owe them. Especially if the contractor asking for solutions so that they can easily manage monthly cashflows.
Banks are not meant to suffocate small business, that is my understanding. FNB must support small business and find solutions with those contractors if situation changes during the intervening period of loan repayments.
