BROKEN PROMISES

I am the executor of my mother's estate. When approaching the Broadacres Branch of FNB for the opening of an estate account, I inquired whether the said account could be placed on my personal banking portfolio so that I could do all necessary payments by eft. I was assured that this could be done, so I opened the said account. As I am a tour guide, I left Johannesburg on tour with the assurance that I could operate the account from wherever I may be in South Africa. To my dismay, when I was told that funds were to be paid into the account, I checked my portfolio only to discover that the estate account did not appear. The lady who is assisting me with the estate then directly approached the Broadacres Branch and was told that I merely have to go to a branch of FNB and all will be sorted. As I find myself at this point to be in Cape Town, I approached a branch in Tokai, only to discover that I cannot have the estate account on my banking portfolio. As I was not given a card or a cheque book, I cannot operate the account at all. I cannot collect a cheque book from a branch, because this is not allowed. It can only be delivered. I am away from Johannesburg until the end of January. I have already arranged for the funds to be paid into this account, so my hands are tied. No doctor accounts or hospital accounts can be paid from the estate account because I have no means to pay. If I could, I would close the account immediately and go to another bank, but I am caught between a rock and a hard place. If FNB do not sort this mess out soon, my next approach is the Ombudsman. You cannot open an account on false pretenses.

It has now been 19 days and no satisfaction from FNB. Still - promises, promises. I was promised a cheque book 19 days ago. To date - nothing. Even to get B. Jiyane of the Broadacres FNB branch to call me (because you cannot call anyone at a branch directly), is a 24 hour or more wait. The courier company, CCD, was supposedly delivering a cheque book on Thursday last week - even got a reference number. No cheque book and the courier company is evading me, as is FNB. The other promise I was made 19 days ago, is that the Tokai branch will order a cheque book which I could collect at the branch. This is of course, denied by the Tokai branch. So, I cannot do internet banking in respect of an estate account (which I was promised I would be able to do), and I have no cheque book, my question then is, how am I as executor, supposed to pay estate accounts? Nice going FNB. Professional is non-existent together with the courier company who ignore my calls and have no reference number as per their own sms sent to me.
