Blocked Credit Card

Friday night, attempting to make a purchase on takealot.com, my FNB credit card was declined. So, decided to try with my debit card. While attempting that, I received a call from FNB ***** asking me if I had tried to make that purchase. I said yes, it was me, it is not *****, don't block my card. It is still blocked. I have tried numerous times to phone them, every time I get nowhere. The Premier card division says they can't help me because I must speak to *****, but I can never get through to *****. This morning (my third or fourth attempt, I've lost count) when I am required to approve the card on the FNB app, I am told there it can't connect and there really is no reason why it shouldn't. My wifi and my 4G are working. And so, I sit with a credit card that is blocked when it should never have been blocked in the first place and I am unable to speak to anyone. I have left a call back message only to be told that someone with contact me within 2 days. 2 days? What am I supposed to do in the meantime? It is no wonder that FNB is now rated as the bank that garners the most complaints with the ombudsman. It happened to me six months ago and now again. I wake up in the morning with a sense of dread when I know I have to spend hours (because it is hours) sorting out a problem with FNB.

Reviewer Update
So, my credit card has now been unblocked but nobody from FNB has phoned me, no personal contact whatsoever. I only realised it had been unblocked when I got an email to notify me that one of my regular payments had gone through.

Not one single person at FNB had the ***** to speak to me personally, to admit that the mistake was their fault, to apologise for the inconvenience caused to me.

It is interesting to note that when trying to find my original review on this site, I had to scroll through pages and pages of complaints eventually finding it on PAGE 10, despite only having written it two days ago. This has to be an indictment of the level of service now being offered by FNB to its clients.

I am not a billionaire and neither am I a millionaire, I am an ordinary bank client with ordinary finances, an ordinary amount of money in my account and ordinary transactions. FNB might not be bothered if I move my account to another bank but judging by the number of complaints about this bank on hellopeter.com it seems likely that hundreds, if not thousands of ordinary clients like me will consider moving to another bank. That will hurt FNB and they need to consider this.
