Bitterley unsatisfactory experience

Trying to make salary payments and one salary fails to go through with a cryptic error. Copy the error and email the euphimistically entitled ********** Get a response mail that they'll look at it between 24 and 48 business hours! Thats 3 to 5 days! To make a payment!

Given its a salary payment I opt to call the number included on the mail. Once through the inevitable menus the call is answered pretty quickly - but thats as good as the service gets. Rather than try and go through the process of repeating everything written in the original message I try to quote the reference number on the mail to the agent. At which point she tells me that she cannot call up the reference number as her system has "intermittent problems". Fine, put me through to someone who can call up up the reference number.

Put through to another agent. Can I give her the reference number? Hell no, she can't retrieve it on her system I will have to go through the entire saga with her. Given that I didn't memorise the error message and that by using the FNB messaging system I don't have a copy of it in my mail client this is not going to go well. indeed it does not and I am fobbed off with - have you tried to make the payment again?

No? Please do so!

Why oh why does FNB give out a reference number if they are not going to use it and expect their customers to memorize their error codes?

Despite getting a call from a lady at FNB who promised to sort out the call centre aspect of this issue I received a mail today advising me to
"...kindly note you will need to provide us with a detailed error message and a a screen shot of the error you are experiencing so we may be able to escalate the matter further for you. [sic]"
Of course I made screen shots of the error at the time of trying to pay a salary doesn't everyone? And the error number copied and pasted into the original email means what exactly? About as much as the reference number for the fault means to the FNB call centre it appears.
I'm not sure but it seems that FNB are deliberately trying to plumb new depth of idiocy in their approach to dealing with their customers who they have already pushed toward the door.
