Biometrics backlog

I have been trying to get my Biometrics for my new passport done at a FNB branch in Kzn and was told there is a huge backlog of bookings. What is FNB doing about this? as I believe that the home affairs' application expires after a time period and my concern is that by the time the back log is dealt with my application will expire. I do not want a response that involves downloading the app.
