Biggest mistake of my life

The worst decision I ever made was to switch to FNB.

Everything went well until I actually wanted to start transacting on my account. I made a deposit into my cheque account on the 30th of November. After it cleared I went to Edgars at the Woodlands mall in Pretoria. After my card being declined 3 times I phoned the client call centre. I was told to go into an FNB branch and and that there was a hold on my account. I went to the branch at Woodlands and got a ticket at 15:18. Estimated waiting time was 8 minutes. I waited 25 minutes before being help. I was informed that the hold on my account was taken off at around 15:30 and that all was in order with my account. I went bank to the Edgars only to have my card declined again. I went back to the branch. At this point in time an hour had passed and my frustration levels were rising by the minute. After the consultant got of the phone I was told that I need to test my card to see if I can draw money from the ATM. I just left as this does not solve my problem. Everyone keeps apologising for the inconvenience and claims to understand my frustration, but my problem is not being resolved.

After leaving the Woodlands branch I phoned the call centre again, told my story again. Waited to be transfer and got cut off.

Phoned back again, told my story to another agent. I was told that I had to make a R50 cash deposit in at an ATM. Then only will my account be activated. I was never informed of this and was told that my account was in order and activated. I requested to talk to a manager.

I spoke a gentlemen in telephone banking informing me that I do not need to make a deposit of R50 at an ATM and that the information given to me was incorrect. I told him that I will draw money and check if I can swipe my card again before he goes home. I was informed that he will be leaving at 19:00 yesterday evening. I phoned the direct number that was provided to me should I need to get hold of the gentleman at around 18:40/18:45. The number that was sms'd to me did not work. I phoned the call centre again and had to explain my whole situation AGAIN as I was not able to speak to the person helping me as he had left early.

I was again told that I had to make a cash deposit of R50! My query was supposed to be escalated.

It is now 11:23 on the 1st of December and still NO feedback as I was promised. You can't complain about the service because there is absolutely none! I made the biggest mistake of my life going to FNB! Such a waste of my time and my energy!
