Beware: Fnb promotes defective goods

I'm utterly disappointed with my experience at One day only and feel compelled to warn others to be extremely cautious before making purchases from this company, lest they suffer the same financial losses and regret I now face. I purchased luggage set (valued at R7,000) and a Dolce and Gabbana fragrance, trusting their affiliation with First National Bank and their “Swiss-made luggage” branding imp**** quality. However, both products were defective, and the retailer’s response has been to shift blame onto me, the customer, to avoid refunding the full purchase amount. Stating that they cannot resell the goods and that it was damaged in the return process - evan though I sent photos before they came to collect. This has left me out of pocket and burdened with disposing of their substandard goods.

The 3 piece luggage set, advertised as premium “Swiss-made,” fell apart on its first and only trip, due to the threaded *****s that were drilled through a thin piece of plastic on the cases. The flimsy handle literally snapped off when being lifted off the floor- Despite being packed well below the airline allowance. By contrast, my husband’s Cape Union Mart suitcase, costing less than R2,000, has endured countless trips ( including this one) and remains intact. This clearly indicates a manufacturing defect, not “mishandling” as the retailer claims. Their refusal to acknowledge the poor quality of this set, which I believe was cheaply made and falsely marketed as “Swiss-made” to justify an inflated R7,000 valuation, is deceptive. Such misleading representations are prohibited by the consumer act, yet they have failed to provide evidence of Swiss manufacturing or any quality control.

Instead of honoring my rights, which entitle consumers to durable, defect-free goods and a full refund for faulty products, the retailer offered partial refund for the large suitcase only, ignoring the identical defects in the smaller suitcases. This amount doesn’t even cover half of the cost of one case, forcing me to spend more to replace a suitcase while being stuck with their unusable junk. Worse, despite my explicit request not to have the defective set returned (acknowledged by their agent Nathan), they sent it back to me and now refuse to arrange collection.

The Dolce and Gabbana fragrance, I purchased was also a **** advertised as an original product. This was clear as the bottle leaked and smell of the fragrance dissipated within an hour.

Their refund process, involving over 20 emails to shift blame and a month-long delay is extremely frustrating.

I deeply regret purchasing from One day only, a company that sells cheaply made products at exorbitant prices, deceives customers with false branding, and then blames them when things go wrong. Potential buyers should be very cautious, as you risk losing money and being left with worthless items, as I am now. I’m forced to pay more for a new suitcase and dispose of their garbage, all while fighting for my consumer rights. Save yourself the regret—shop elsewhere.
