Banks are Not Eco Friendly

I wonder how many people realise what complete Troglodytes the banking sector really are in this country. They will not grant a home loan in KwaZulu-Natal unless a certificate of compliance is issued which demands that every living creature within and around a house is exterminated. To be clear, that would include nesting birds, geckos, lizards, spiders, frogs, praying mantises, moths, bats, wild cats and any other creature which honours us by sharing our living space, doing a sterling job of keeping down the insect population naturally while they are about it. This is not something which is demanded country-wide. For a period of time the method of tenting was quite rightly outlawed. Simply because a different chemical is now used it is sadly back on the list of terrible things that we do to our environment. It is ecologically unforgivable and actually does not work for very long on borer, and not at all for termites. Targeted extermination is safer and far more sensible, and cheaper. Our house was tented before we moved in – a terrible sight to see after the fact. The borer, however, were back within the year right after the annual swarming event. And the white ants never did leave. Only white ants above the ground are killed, whilst those who nest underneath the ground, ie all of them, will be quite safe from tenting. So, what guarantee exactly is being referred to? To what end this indiscriminate killing? We have managed to keep our house borer-free for six years, with some judicious applications of surgical spirits. This involves not much effort, just awareness. The banking sector in this country has some explaining to do to our newly-aware people regarding just how far they are prepared to go in order to pay more than lip-service to climate and ecological issues
