Banking fees on closed account

From January 2025 I've been trying to close an account. On the banking app it gives the option to close it, following the instructions and at the end it states that the account has been closed successfully, yet come month end bank fees goes off and the account is not closed. Then I have to pay the bank fees and repeat the same thing, now after phoning in they again say first pay the bank fees then they'll close it. So for months they take bank fees but according to the app the account is closed. Trust no one.
