BAD SERVICE | FNB refusing to close my account despite my many attempts for the past 7 months

FNB Retail Banking is ******ing me.

I settled my account on the 10th December 2015 at FNB Greenstone Mall Branch in Edenvale, then instructed the branch to close my account. On the 15th December 2015 I received a letter via e-mail from ********** confirming that my account has been settled. I proceeded to share the same instruction with him, requesting my account to be closed. On the 17th December 2015 I spoke to Shantal Naidoo and e-mailed ********** with the very same instruction to close my account.

To my surprise in January 2016 I received a statement with a bank charge; again in February 2016 I received another statement with more bank charges - for an account I no longer used, nor needed. On 24 February I called FNB and was sent from pillar to post. Decided to go to a branch, went to FNB Festival Mall and they were unable to help me referring me to their Recoveries Division and they referred me back to the Branch. I e-mailed all the people I had spoken to but to date the account is still not closed and incurring unsolicited charges.

Each month when I received a statement with more/accumalating Bank Charges - I would phone FNB and go to a different branch hoping to get some assistance. More recently on the 15th June 2016 I went to FNB Woodmead Mall and the Customer Service Clerk told me that they are unable to close the account for now it has a balance which I must pay and then call Recoveries Dept (how's that for service? I must pay again and then I must call to close the account say FNB employee). I refused to pay but did call Mr Marcel Ferguson on 15.6.2016 at 14.09 who claimed that He can No longer access my account from his side and that his Recoveries Department has closed the account. He referred me to Develon [ ********** 250] who I called on 15.6.2016 at 14.12 but was not available and did not return my voicemail message. I was then referred to Thoko [ ********** 258] who was very polite but also unable to assist, as she insisted that I must pay the outstanding Bank Charges or take it up with the Branch that failed me initially.

Subsequently this account is now appearing with negative balance on my Credit Profile, prohibiting me from advancing my personal plans and ambitions. I am going to be approaching the Ombudsman to help me now.
