Bad Service
I decided that I need to start working towards trying to clear out my debt. I contact FNB on the 19 Feb 2018 to close off my credit card and i was informed that it will take three days for them to close this account. I make payment and follow this up with a call to find out if all is in order. I then get a call on the 21 Feb from a consultant who wants to know why i have cancelled my card - the reasons why which are irrelevant at this point. From my first request i advised the consultant that i don't want any debt anymore. In my opinion when a customer feels that they want to live in a debt free environment the bank should respect their wishes. FNB then wants to advise you of the benefits that you would be missing out on like one were not aware of this in all the time one had this account. I was the informed by the consultant that my account will only be closed off in the next 24 hours which is quite strange for me. It is like the bank is holding you hostage on something that does not serve you anymore. It is the right of the customer to get their account closed immediately and not have to wait for the bank to switch this off in their time. Basically the funds are still available for one to be tempted to go back and use the funds again. If an account is closed the amount should not reflect in one’s account and the customer should not have access to this due to the PROCESSES that have to be followed by the bank. I find that this is so ********* for the bank to keep on pushing their processes as a form of closing off a debt. I plead to the bank to please follow the rights of the consumer and respect their wishes to want to live in a debt free environment. In actual fact the bank should encourage people like me to try and get rid of their debt and not try and tempt one to keep an account open. We all understand that this is how the bank makes their revenue however this does not make it right to exploit people.
