Bad banking practice

I have a cheque account that was not used no active cards for almost a year I could not close the account when I wanted too and in this time the account accrued more than R5000 bank charges how does this happen and how do you just take this money from a client.If I draw R50 from a suspect area you contact a person but you allow 5000 to accumulate without stepping in absolutely pathetic I will be closing all my accounts with you as soon as you permit .
