Bad assistance

Hi, I paid funds into a closed FNB account by accident. FNB refuses to provide me with a closure statement for the account to give to my bank, African Bank. They require this apparently to complete their investigation in order to return the funds to my account. I don't understand why the funds were not immediately returned without issue and my question is: where is the money now??!
