Avoid FNB Home Loans at all costs.

FNB Home Loans does not even deserve 1 star. I have a home loan with FNB and app**** for an addition as my home needs extensive renovations. A few months prior to starting this process we were informed by our municipality that we needed updated approved plans for work done. We were not aware that we needed the plans but in good faith started the process immediately. The work that was done was fully paid for so this extension is not for that in any form but for the exiting house that is on the approved plans. FNB were not prepared to consider the application for the extension without the approved plans that include the parts of the house that are already paid for. So we went through hoops to obtain this as soon as possible. Then they wanted the approved sectional title plans - the lawyers got this right on the second try. Then it was certificate of occupancy - even though these were only issued in later years long after the house was built. However I approached the municipality and the person in charge manually issued a certificate.

So 7 months after I started the application FNB has everything. I then had to resubmit proof of address and so on. Then the interest rate changed so I had to re-sign .

Now after all of this FNB waive the conditions of the approved plans, the sectional title plans and the occupancy certificate. Basically nullifying the effort of the last 7 months!!!! So I need to re-sign - again. And go through the waiting period again.

I was with Nedbank and foolishly moved this to FNB. The attitude is that FNB Home Loans are doing you a favor. The fact that this is a loan that will be repaid with interest does not factor in their attitude.

So apply at your peril - and be prepared for this process to take months and months. And I still don't have the loan. I have started to shop round to move my entire home loan and cancel this nightmare process.
