Avoid FNB Connect for your devices!
I have been a client for over 15 years and our business accounts and personal accounts go through FNB.
Now to my point...
I have been buying my devices (laptops and phones etc.) via FNB Connect and after waiting for an entire year (yes a year!) to sort our house sale and other deals which include the unfortunate practice of having to make more debt (hard sigh..), I could finally apply for a device (as you shouldn't make ANY debt while waiting for a homeloan/transer to be sorted out FIRST) JUST to have FNB deny it and give me the WRONG break down of my finances and credit responsabilities as their reasoning!
I tried to call them to sort it out and sent an email as well, but all for naught.
So where did they mess up? Their affordability breakdown is built as if they are your parents telling you when and how to spend your money AND they have the wrong information in connectio with HOW you pay things monthly (as we are a TWO income household, their numbers are WAY off!) and how much you make every month,as they don't know your monthly income, other than what they updated maybe 5 years ago.
They make it SUPER DIFFICULT to get ANY items via their store and then when you query it, they basically go 'Meh..What can you do!?'
So let me give you some examples:
Our home loan is just under R7000,00 - FNB has me as paying the ENTIRE amount, even though it is registered under both my wife and I buying it together (and it is registered under MR and MRS - joint bond folks ......, not just me) - Meanwhile: Our business pays over a third towards the loan and my wife and I split the remaining amount,so in reality,I pay just under R2400 towards our joint home loan,so INSTANTLY FNB has it wrong and just on this one point ALONE they have miscalculated my my credit/loan/debt commitments with over R4000! They also don't count my 'teaching on the side' income (very little hours to be honest) of close to another R4500 a month.
So...Yes....
So I would AVOID them as an option,as they clearly don't want a client who has been buying his devices from FNB since the inception of the concept of the FNB Connect Store from taking up another device (as my laptop is basically on its way out and I'd rather not have to spend a lump sum on a R20K plus laptop, but i'll have to save up for a bit now)
So to sumize - FNB..Your 'affordability calculation' is a JOKE and your information collection is flawed, even if you ONLY go by what you collect via the likes of TransUnion and the likes of such credit entities.
This is actually not surprising and very understandable,as FNB was the ONLY bank to not give people payment breaks during the initial Covid hit,BUT RATHER 'help them' by giving them the chance by taking out a COVID RELIEF LOAN (the irony is strong with this concept), so that they can make more money off of hardship..
Sad.
Shape up FNB.
