Attempts Requesting Bank Statements unsuccessful

I am extremely happy banking at FNB, to me the best bank in SA I have ever used. This is more than an attemt to get a positive outcome in terms of my interaction with FNB this morning.

My online banking service limits me in terms how far back I can download historical statements - not sure if this can be changed or if it is the same for all clients.

I called the FNB call centre Friday and requested statements. They sent me my most recent statement (which I also downloaded from my internet banking) but not the ones I requested.

I contacted the FNB call centre this morning and requested bank statements again. The consultant managed to retrieve them and said she sent it to me. She stayed on the line but the statements did not come through. We tried another email address and still no success.

She then transferred me to another consultant as she expected a technical issue with her system. The next consultant told me that she does not have access to the requested statements and that I should go to my branch, but before we could discuss the matter further the line was dropped (it seems to me that this is a common issue with call centres). If statements are requested at the bank the charges are exorbitant, unreasonable actually - so not an option for me.

I called the call centre again. This time the consultant retrieved the statements and said she sent them to me and we ended the call. The statements did not come through.

So I logged on to internet banking and was trying to send an email via the website through the service provided. A message appeared on the top of the page saying that "the required data could not be provided" not 100% sure of the exact wording.

So I called the call centre again and this time was told by the consultant that he does not have access to my profile and that there appeared a message on his system saying that FNB will contact me.

I think to get 3 X statements should be easier that all the effort above. It could have been avoided by making the statements available online. I have done my best to get the statements and to post this review here is an effort to get my statements and not a complaint as such. There seems to be no other way to get my statements?

My calls to the call centre was answered quickly (surprisingly given my experience with call centres in general) and the consultants where well trained and very helpful.

Dawie van Heerden
