ATM UNSUCCESSFUL DEPOSIT: FNB ABDICATING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AS A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION.

On 17 November 2022, I did a deposit of R1900 at the FNB Vangate Branch. The ATM used experienced an error whilst doing the deposit. One of the R100 notes got stuck in the machine. None of the money was returned except for a R100 note. Instead, a receipt came out saying deposit unsuccessful.

I approached one of the consultants to assist me and examined to her what had happened and the urgency in me having to retrieve my money as the deposit was urgent. The consultant explained that the money will be deposited into the account that the deposit was initially selected but that it would only be finalised within 48 hours.

I again expressed the urgency of the deposit and enquired if it was possible to be deposited into my account and that I will have to do another deposit of R1900. The consultant confirmed with her bank manager that it was possible and I provided her with the banking details. I was told that it would take up 48 hours for it to reflect in my account.

On 22 November 2022, I visited the same branch and approached the same consultant to find out when the money will reflect in my account. It was then discovered that despite the reassurance granted to me that it will be deposited into my account, it was deposited into the initial account.

I was told by the consultant that it would be easier if I call the holder of the account that the deposit was initially to be deposited to, to see if he could just send me the money as this would be easier. After I explained that it was not an error on my side and that I am not taking responsibility for their faulty machines or lack of thoroughness to ensure that the money was paid into the correct account as agreed, the "suggestion" to contact the account holder was made another 2 times. Whilst I am cognizant of the fact that it would be easier to call the holder, it is NOT MY PROBLEM. I was inconvenienced in have to do another deposit if R1900 to ensure that the funds would reflect the beneficiary's account.

The same consultant then presented me with a cash deposit claims form which I needed to sign. The form clearly indicates that the money was deposited into the incorrect account by FNB. However, the most alarming part is that under the disclaimer it states that NOT A FULL REFUND BY FNB IS GUARANTEED, but the error is on their side.

I refuse to be grossly inconvenienced any further and DEMAND MY R1800 BACK WHICH IS RIGHTFULLY MINE. When you money is owed to these financial institutions, they will harass a person but the minute they owe you your own money, they are quick to abdicate their responsibility and come with "suggestions"
